Word

Create, fill, edit or read Word documents — from Markdown, your company template or with AI.

What it does

The Word step produces a real .docx document. Headings, bold and italic text, lists and tables from Markdown are formatted with the styles of the template. The result is a file in the run: it appears as a card in the Inbox and in the job details, where it can be previewed and downloaded. Optionally it is saved to a path on the server; to store it on WebDAV, add a Store file step.

Without a template the document uses a neutral base layout. With your company template (letterhead, fonts, footer) the content is placed where the template has the placeholder {@inhalt}.

Modes

ModeWhat happensNeeds
createMarkdown or text becomes a document.Content
create-with-aiThe AI writes the document from an instruction and optional context, e.g. minutes from bullet points.Instruction, model
fill-templateFills placeholders in your own document (see below). With instruction and model, the AI fills them — the fields are read from the template automatically.Template, data (or instruction + model)
editChanges an existing document. With AI: the AI gets the paragraphs and replaces, inserts or deletes individual ones; the formatting of each paragraph stays. Without AI: search and replace with { "search": "replacement" }, also across formatting boundaries. A document from a path on the server is saved back there.Document; instruction + model or replacements
readReads the text of a document; optionally as Markdown.Document

Placeholders in templates

PlaceholderMeaning
{field}, {customer.name}A value; dot paths reach into objects.
{#items}…{/items}Repeats the enclosed part (e.g. a table row) for each entry of the list.
{@field}Inserts Markdown formatted: headings, lists, tables.
{@inhalt}Where the content goes in the create modes.
{titel}, {datum}Title (field Title) and today's date in the workspace format.

Example scenario

Offer from a request. The Email received trigger delivers a customer request. An AI step extracts customer, items and quantities as structured data. The Word step in mode fill-template fills the company offer template ({customer.name}, a table row with {#items}{name}{quantity}{price}{/items}). A Request approval step lets sales check the offer before Store file files it.

Recommendations

  • ✅ Keep the company template simple: one {@inhalt} for free text, plain placeholders for fixed fields.
  • ✅ Use edit with AI for small changes to existing contracts or letters — the rest of the document stays untouched.
  • ⚠️ Word templates use single braces ({field}), Excel templates double braces ({{field}}).
  • ❌ There is no PDF output. Convert the document in your document management system if you need PDF.
